MLB Trade Deadline Frenzy: Who Won?

MLB Trade Deadline Frenzy: Who Won?

By Michael Simon

NEW YORK, NY_.  The Major League Baseball Trade Deadline seems to always have serious contender implications.  Many teams over the previous years have completely bolstered their starting lineups through last-minute trades before the end of the deadline.  This year could possibly go down as one of the most hectic trade deadlines in recent memory.  With 23 previous All-Stars, 10 of which being All-Stars this year, a lot of star power was being sent from city to city at this deadline.  So, amongst all of this craziness, who won the deadline?

New York Yankees

The Yankees added two of the best hitters in the league at this trade deadline.  Anthony Rizzo, former World Series champion with the Chicago Cubs, and Joey Gallo, former All-Star and Gold Glover, both were sent to the New York Yankees before the deadline.  These two sluggers add a lot of depth and star power to an offense that many would claim is underwhelming thus far.  With the addition of these two bats, the Yankees look to make a serious push into a tight AL East division race.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Once again, the Dodgers make another splash in acquiring star players.  The Dodgers added to an already stacked pitching rotation when they acquired two-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer from the Washington Nationals before the deadline.  On top of Scherzer, the Dodgers added one of the most promising young shortstops in the league, Trea Turner, who is being sent over to Los Angeles in the middle of his career year so far.  The Dodgers added two essential pieces to a team that already seems to be headed to a deep playoff run.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants did not seem to make a lot of moves throughout the deadline.  However, the one move they did make may keep them in talks to claim the NL West division crown.  In a race that includes the Padres and the Dodgers, the Giants added Kris Bryant, a star third baseman from the Chicago Cubs.  For the last two months of the regular season, Bryant is a great addition for the Giants and adds essential star power to keep the Giants on pace for the best record in the MLB.

Following the deadline, it is proven that the remainder of the season is set out for a historic ending.  At the end of the season, we will be better suited to assess who actually won the deadline.
