A Muse, Carmen Amaya
The designer took inspiration from a Spanish flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya. Amaya was known as one of the greatest flamenco dancers. Moreover, she is the first female flamenco dancer to wear a male’s clothing onstage. Also, she mastered footwork previously reserved for male roles. Therefore, Amaya’s unconventional career choices led the designer to have her as a muse of the collection.
The documentary also captured the intensive research for the collection, From choreography and the building set to casting and design, it has conveyed all the details.
Meanwhile, the designer collaborated with Spanish craftspeople. They worked together to recreate the brand’s signature design such as an emblematic bar jacket and exclusive accessories.
Regarding the setting of the stage, Plaza de España in Seville created a dreamlike atmosphere. It was a perfect place to present the silhouettes moving through light and shadow. One thing that stood out is the ornate boleros paired with contemporary pants and shimmering taffeta dresses. In short, the beautiful flamenco dancers’ style rocked the show.
