2020 marks six decades of Dr. Martens. And we’re celebrating with 12 one-off collaborations. It’s time for the 8th. In their latest partnership, we’ve joined creative forces with cult favorite Needles. Continuing our ongoing partnership with the vintage Americana, military and sportswear inspired brand, our latest 1460 boot is a collision of the old and the new. Needles founder Keizo Shimizu has played a big part in altering the course of Japanese fashion. And with his lifelong enthusiasm for DM’s and his knack for taking old pieces and reinvigorating them with modernistic styling, the unchanged-in-six-decades design of the 1460 boot is the ideal outlet.
“NEEDLES HAVE BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF DESIGN FOR OVER A QUARTER OF A CENTURY. THEIR VISION, TO REIMAGINE AND REINTERPRET THEIR BRAND YEAR AFTER YEAR, BRINGS A NEW FRESH APPROACH TO THE 1460 IN THE YEAR OF ITS ANNIVERSARY.” — Darren Mckoy, Dr. Martens
A clash between Needles’ contemporary branding and the deep-set heritage of our 1460 boot, their latest collaboration sees 1960 meet 2020. Taking Needles signature purple track pant stripe, we see Shimizu reimagine an icon that’s remained the same since it first rolled off the production line. With Needles’ trademark ‘Papillon’ butterfly — inspired by the movie of the same name — floating above our yellow stitching, it’s a unification of two brand beacons.
“THE 1460 BOOT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME. IT HAS THIS TIMELESS, UNIVERSAL, UNBIASED ATTRACTIVENESS” — Needles
The contrast of vintage and modern-day also comes across in the boot’s laces — with three sets offering the wearer flexibility — in black, purple and a standout, futuristic silver. Finished with black and yellow heel loop.
The collection drops 22.08 and will be available at drmartens.com and select partners.
