Taylor Swift’s reputation is taking a serious hit after a recent report by Yard, a digital marketing agency, named her as the number one celebrity polluter by use of her private jet. Swifties are known for defending the pop star no matter what, but this report is something they cannot overlook.

“Tackling climate change is one of the most urgent and pressing challenges that we face. It’s understandably frustrating when most of the population does their bit to lower their personal CO2e, whether that’s separating their cardboard from plastic, reducing their meat consumption, reducing their digital footprints by turning off their devices if they don’t use them for two hours or more or even just clearing out their email inboxes,” said Yard’s Digital Sustainability Director, Chris Butterworth.

In their study based on data from twitter account Celebrity Jets, the agency discovered the top 10 celebrity polluters. So far in 2022 their research proved that celebrities produced 3376.64 in tonnes using their private jets. Some of the Hollywood names included are Oprah Winfrey, Mark Wahlburg, Kim Kardashian, Blake Shelton, and Jay-Z.

Yard called out Swift for being the number one celebrity polluting the air. She is allegedly responsible for 170 flights in 2022. This tallied up to 22,923 minutes and 15.9 days in the air. Her total emissions have been 8,293.54 tonnes this year according to the report, which is 1,184.8 times more than the average person. The singer is not currently on tour, which begs the question of why her private jet is being used so often.

Swift’s representative commented two days after the report was released to the LA Times, saying that the emissions are not all her fault. They stated that Swift rents out her private jet to outside individuals to use, so she is not responsible for all 170 flights. The representative did not confirm any names that the jet has recently been loaned to.

“To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect,” Swift’s representative said to the LA Times Sunday, July 31.

Fans posted on social media to give their own opinion on the matter. Some fans created memes poking fun at Swift, while others came straight out against her pointing out the hypocrisy of her being an activist for issues like climate change while being named the celebrity producing the most CO2e in the air.

The statement given by Swift’s representative to the LA Times is not good enough for some fans on social media. Some believe she is evading responsibility by not commenting on the controversy herself. One person commented on Twitter how Swift’s team put a “humanitarian spin” on the issue to make herself appear generous for loaning her private jet to other individuals.
