Today, Raleigh-based rapper Toosii released his new single “Love Is…” The melodic rap track samples Julia Michaels’ song “Love Is Weird” and pulls at heart strings by expressing the pain and aches of a breakup.

Toosii teased the track earlier this month to his TikTok audience. The snippet of the song racked up hundreds of videos with over 14 million combined views across the platform. He even jokingly announced the track would release earlier, which left fans anticipating “Love Is…” even harder. In a TikTok comment under his official announcement a fan commented “better not be another joke bro” to which Toosii replied “that post was a joke lmao it always was dropping tonight.”

Now that the track is finally out, it’s sure to have audiences crying in the club. Toosii spills his guts on the record and laments about heartbreak and the confusion that takes place during a breakup. Backed by a full-sounding instrumental, his lyrics mesh well with Julia Michaels’ dreamy vocals in the background.

Toosii pleads and begs his lover to come back to him on “Love Is….” He also asks for forgiveness for his wrongdoings saying “Baby I need you to be here/ Be my friend, hold my hand/ Will you forgive all my sins?” Whether or not Toosii gets another chance, “Love Is…” is a heartbreak anthem for the ages. Another lyrical highlight of the track is when he says what we’re all thinking: “I just wanna meet whoever made love, ‘cus it hurt.”

Like fellow North Carolina native DaBaby, Toosii also belongs to South Coast Music Group. He was also a part of XXL’s 2021 Freshman Class. Notable tracks from Toosii include “Truth Be Told,” “Love Cycle” featuring Summer Walker, “Sapiosexual,” and “5’5” featuring Latto. Notable projects include Why Not Now, Who Dat, Thank You for Believing, Platinum Heart, and Poetic Pain.
