NFTs demonstrate the power of disintermediated bonds between artists and fans by allowing artists to engage in a new fashion with their audiences. Creators are able to provide rare, unique digital experiences to fans looking for compelling ways to deepen their connection to their favorite musicians and filmmakers. During the festival, attendees will be able to participate in drops, purchase NFTs and collect POAPs simply by connecting their digital wallet to the SXSW x BCL Marketplace. At the SXSW marketplace, fans will find over 200 artists, musicians and filmmakers with NFTs for sale, as well as the official SXSW NFT Mascot — “Batfan” — for $30. The SXSW x BCL POAP not only serves as a piece of collectible digital artwork, it’s also proof attendees were part of SXSW 2022.
Artists releasing song NFTs at SXSW x BCL NFT include Grammy Award winner KT Tunstall, Portrait XO, Solar Flare, Callie Twisselman, Morris Mills, Electra Mustaine, Detalji, Big Bill, Lesibu Grand, Robynn Shayne, Kiana V, Hēran Soun, Icaro Del Soll, David Shabani, Galvezton, Krisheena Suarez & iamDES, Indrajit Banerjee, Kovic, Housekeys, Migs718, The Brothers Moore, Tim Arnold, Johnny Chops, Blato Zlato and Enjoyable Listens. SXSW attendees are invited to discover artists performing at SXSW via the blockchain at the BCL_RecordBlocks station at 5th and Trinity.
“I’m excited to make an unreleased song of mine called ‘Dirty Water’ available as an NFT during SXSW. The music industry is in a place of profound change, and Blockchain Creative Labs is offering artists a new way to share their creative work, as well as a different way for music fans to discover their next favorite musician,” said musician KT Tunstall.
BCL is also collaborating with filmmakers to take their original SXSW premiere posters and immortalize them as one-of-one, rare and other limited NFTs that will be available on the SXSW x BCL NFT marketplace. Films to feature poster NFTs on the marketplace include the documentaries “Still Working 9 to 5,” from directors Camille Hardman and Gary Lane, “Mama Bears” and “The Pez Outlaw”; “Seriously Red,” starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne; “It Is In Us All”; and “A Lot of Nothing,” co-written and directed by Mo McRae – all of which will be dropped during the SXSW Film Premiere NFT “Countdown-to-Minting” Poster Party on Sunday, March 13.
“As a filmmaker, I am very excited to see our documentary engaging with Web3 and NFTs, and learning how this dynamic space is evolving new ways of incorporating filmmaking stories, as well as delivering our film’s message of workplace equality to a new platform and audience,” added “Still Working 9 to 5” director Camille Hardman.
“We are excited that our documentary is in the same orbit as the SXSW Dollyverse. We are honored to reunite Dolly, Lily, Dabney and Jane for new interviews, and give Austin audiences an exclusive listen to the new ‘9 to 5’ duet Dolly created with Kelly Clarkson exclusive for our film. Dolly calls it ‘9 to 5 the slow version,’” said “Still Working 9 to 5” director Gary Lane.
