Manasseh’s “Junie” feat. Galaxy Francis
Chicago R&B vocalist Manasseh shares his psychedelic soul meets hip-hop single Junie, featuring his longtime collaborator Galaxy Francis.
As a singer, vocal coach and arranger, Manasseh Croft has worked alongside Johari Noelle, AMI, Isaiah Collier and many more. He’s recently appeared on tracks released by Marquis Hill, Heavy Crownz, Rich Jones, Rhea the Second, and very recently with Galaxy Francis on his new single.
“When my producer Eddie Burns sent me the track a few years ago, I was hooked on how much it reminded me of Adult Swim”, Croft stated. “The track itself was named ‘Junie’ and I didn’t want to change it. I sat and thought: ‘What if I was Junie? What if I changed my name, hopped states, lost weight, shaved my head, I’m no longer Manasseh… I’m now Junie.’”
When speaking on his collaboration with Galaxy Francis, Croft felt that Francis laid down some of the most honest verses that he heard. “‘Junie’ is for anyone who has ever honestly needed a break from how taxing their reality has been”, he added.
And the track truly does give the listener a break, its soft lo-fi inspired drumbeat and lush vocals from Manasseh truly bring this soulful track together.
The single also teases Manasseh’s upcoming second album R&B[eyond] which is set to release later this summer.
The album to Croft is meant to be a tribute to his mom, specifically the permission she gave him to explore secular music while growing up in a strict Baptist household. Croft states, “Even so, my mother always recognized just how deeply I loved music – and that truth lives at the core of this body of work.”
The upcoming album is set to expand Manasseh’s sound and will include other collaborations from the likes of femdot., producer Renzell (Chance the Rapper) and many more.
