On Tuesday, May 26th, up and coming alternative pop artist ‘Clovvi’ released her 4th original song on Spotify titled “calli”. The song revolves around a simple love story on an infectious beat. It fuses the classic upbeat pop style with dreamy, intimate lyrics that the artist so delicately delivers. There are elements of city pop that are combined with modern sounds to create a unique experience.
The track tackles the weight of understanding you aren’t someone’s first choice, but loving them enough to stay regardless. This situation is difficult; You know you should leave, yet something evil compels you to stay. It’s even harder to swallow when you’re self-aware.
Chloe Brooks is Reinventing the Pop Wheel
Chloe Brooks is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter based in Melbourne, Australia, going under the name ‘Clovvi’. Growing up, Brooks had always been interested in music, whether it be listening, singing, or playing instruments. Growing up, her father introduced her to artists like The Gorillaz, Depeche Mode, and Soft Cell. Once the 2020 pandemic rolled around, the then-15-year-old Brooks turned to songwriting as a hobby.
But surprisingly, the biggest inspiration has come from an unlikely source: K-Pop Boy band Cortis. Though different in style, their purpose and drive continuously inspire Brooks to keep having fun. There’s no polished, authentic formula for creativity, it just happens. Music is passion and that’s something that Brooks doesn’t take for granted. “Over the years, music became an increasingly important part of my life. When in crisis, I turned to music. When overjoyed, I turned to music. Listening and making my own music became a lifeline.”
Brooks also feels a deeply personal connection to her songwriting. She originally began this journey posting various covers on TikTok with no real intention, it was just fun. But quickly building a small following allowed her to gain confidence.
Now she wishes to challenge stereotypical pop conventions with her dreamy, chill, and intimate vibe. Her songs are upbeat, teetering on the line between soft and energetic. The lyrics are intimate and authentic, with Brooks showing the raw, real side of storytelling. Chloe Brooks is just getting started, but her passion for music is unmatched.
“Now having four songs released, I can’t imagine doing anything else. It brings my life purpose to create my music and have it matter to others. I have the chance to make music my career, and I am determined not to let this opportunity slide by.”
