DJ Khaled Drops “Staying Alive” ft. Drake and Lil Baby Ahead of Album Release
The track samples the 1977 disco track “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees. The Gibb brothers are listed as lyricists and composers in the new song’s credits. Drake and Lil Baby rap about how their success and wealth attracts many women but not for the right reasons. The chorus addresses their haters who wish to see them fail, but that they “stay alive” anyway: “Try me a hundred times/Wanted me to lie, wanted me to cry, wanted me to die/Ah, ah, ah, I’m stayin’ alive, I’m stayin’ alive, I’m stayin’ alive, I’m stayin’ alive”
Along with the song, fans also got a visual to go with the new track. In the music video, Drake, Lil Baby, and Khaled work in a hospital and treat patients. They vibe out at the reception desk and dance in a circle of lit ambulance trucks. Watch the music video HERE
Before the video’s release, Khaled shared a few photos from the video shoot, which took place in a fictional facility called the “Khaled Khaled Hospital.”
“We represent the future of medicine,” reads the hip-hop hospital’s “mission statement.” “Our surgical residents are at the top of their class, our highly decorated doctors are at the top of their fields, and our equipment is simply put—state of the art. We are here to ensure that you are always #StayingAlive. We’re here to do GOD’s work.”
DJ Khaled, Drake, and Lil Baby are far from first time collaborators and its clear in their chemistry on the new track. While this is the trio’s first hit together, they’ve made certified bangers in pairs. Drake and Lil Baby, for example, have “Wants and Needs,” “Girls Want Girls,” and “Yes Indeed” under their belt. Drake and Khaled have “POPSTAR,” “I’m On One,” and “No New Friends.” Lil Baby and Khaled have “EVERY CHANCE I GET” and “BODY IN MOTION.”
