Should Drake Go Independent?
‘If Drake Goes Independent, the Music Business Is Done,’ Says United Masters’ Steve Stoute
During a two-day virtual SelectCon conference, Stoute talked about entrepreneurship, music marketing, sports, personal finance, and other entertainment industry topics with veterans from the industry. He had a segment with the rapper Russ under the topic “Independence: A Conversation with Steve Stoute + Russ.”
Russ recently completed his contract with Columbia Records and is an independent artist. The two men talked about the impact Drake would have on the music industry if he decided to drop an independent album. Russ believes Drake “will make $10 million a week for f–ing 60 weeks.”
With the influence Drake has over the music industry, the possible independent album would make more than $10 million a week due to the number of features Drake is known for having on his records. Stoute predicts, “if Drake goes independent, the music business is over. If Drake goes independent, the music business is done.”
Drake recently released two tracks with DJ Khaled: “POPSTAR” and “Greece.” Drake has teased fans that a new album will be coming out soon.
Steve Stoute’s anticipates: “Drake is about to get the biggest bag in the history of the music business by far.” Fans will have to wait and see if the album will be an independent project or not.
