Feathers Are A Girls Best Friend

Feathers Are A Girls Best Friend

Now that we’ve finally moved on from sweat sets and are coming back to the world of fashion, feathers are becoming a go-to embellishment. Lately, on social media, in stores, and on the runways faux feathers have been making an appearance. Back in December 2021, my TikTok feed was absolutely dominated by feather fashion. I’m glad to see that feathers have carried over to become the must-have embellishment for 2022.

Couture

Feathers have always been popular in runways fashion, the Ralph & Russo Fall Couture show in 2018 featured a couple of dresses with beautiful feather plums. And in the following years, feathered garments made a statement in the Marc Jacobs SS2019 show and on Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s show-stopping gowns at the 2019 Met Gala. Since then, plumed garments have made their way out of editorial fashion and into our closets.

While feathered fits have been making their runway rounds for years, this year the trend is really taking off. Alaïa’s Fall/Winter 2022 runway collection showed off some spectacular feathered pieces. I hope this upcoming Fall/Winter Fashion Week in New York will give us some new feather inspiration.

Trending

Aside from couture, this frilly trend already has people flocking to it in 2022. Made-to-wear brands picked up the trend early this year. Brands like Revolve, Net-A-Porter, and Neiman Marcus released their take on feather plumed clothing.

The great thing about this trend is its versatility, you can pop a feather puff on virtually any item. From feather back pumps to trimmed tops and pants, this trend works on anything.

Recently, one of my favorite variations on this trend is the denim and feather combo. An oversized denim jacket with feather sleeves or feathered lining is such a fun look. Feathers really give any clothing item an edgy yet chic look that you can dress up or down.

Any way you style this, trend it’s an easy way to give your look a little something extra. We’ll see if feathers show up on the runway in NYFW. But, for Gen-Z and made-to-wear brands, feathers are here to stay in 2022.
