If you have a Netflix subscription (or access to someone else’s), then you’ve probably become familiar with the hype surrounding Shonda Rhimes’ production company’s popular new series on the platform, Bridgerton. Amongst the corsets and the drama, is also an extremely gorgeous and talented leading man, Regé-Jean Page as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings.
Page was born in London, but he has citizenship from both The United Kingdom and Zimbabwe. He began his career by starring in plays before moving on to making his American debut in the popular miniseries Roots. With a large presence in various television shows in the UK, a recognizable face in the world of theater, and now the popularity of Bridgerton, Page is sure to see his career skyrocket in the coming years.
Bridgerton is a new series that centers on a racially integrated Regency era London in 1813, during the social season of arranging matches for marriage. On the show, Page’s character went through a roller coaster of a whirlwind romance. Don’t worry, we won’t give any spoilers. If you haven’t seen the show yet, all you need to know is that he has a whole lot of swoon-worthy moments. The iconic actress Julia Andrews narrates the Gossip Girl takes Pride and Prejudice-esque series, and introduces us to many new faces to look out for in the future, especially Page’s.
With Bridgerton certainly being primed for a second season, he has a bright future ahead of him with the streaming giant and beyond. In more exciting news, he’ll also host Saturday Night Live next week on February 20th, alongside Bad Bunny as the musical guest. It’s the perfect chance to see his comedy chops, and if all goes well then we should definitely be seeing him on our screens more often from now on.
