Terrifying, I know! What if something goes wrong? What if you can’t get a hold of anyone you trust? What if you get bored? These are all worthy fears when you consider traveling alone. However, people who have done it will mostly tell you that it is a worthwhile experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lives. In case you need a bit of convincing, here’s a few reasons why it might be the right choice for you.

One of the best things about traveling is getting to meet people from all over the world. You’ll be more open to meeting new people if you’re alone. Locals have a lot to offer tourists, especially if you’re trying to get the most sightseeing done as possible. Still, do your homework before you arrive. If you’re traveling abroad, learn what can be considered disrespectful so you won’t have to worry about offending locals.

If you’re more of a free spirit who doesn’t like following other people’s orders, or worrying about accommodating others on your vacation, then solo travel is perfect for you. You can change plans to whatever you want them to be and leave places when you see fit. You don’t have to wait for anyone else’s luggage to come through the airport carousel, or be woken up before you’re ready. It truly is a vacation from every responsibility and consideration for anyone but yourself.

Most importantly, you can learn a lot about yourself. Taking the time to be truly bored or alone is when your mind does the most wandering. You can ask yourself the hard questions and get away from outside influence from those closest to you. Learn to rely on yourself, take care of yourself, listen to yourself, and love yourself. If you do decide to travel alone, the main priority is safety. Always do your research, stay on alert, and have fun!
