Claud Is Making A Name For Themselves

Claud: “I feel love really intensely”

Claud From The Beginning

Claudia Mintz, better known now as Claud, is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter from the suburbs of Chicago. Claud began releasing music under the name “Toast”, before a lawsuit from Wonder Bread that made them reconsider changing their name. In high school, the singer would release music on Soundcloud while booking themselves to play at local bowling alleys in the greater Chicago area. The singer eventually enrolled themselves at Syracuse University’s music program but eventually dropped out when they realized their music could really take them somewhere. In late 2019 Phoebe Bridgers approached Claud and gave them the opportunity to be part of her record label. Since then, Claud has released a total of 9 singles and 1 album. Their music started to gain popularity when their song “Soft Spot” off their first album “Super Monster” went viral on Tik Tok.

LGBTQ+ Representation In Popular Music

From the very beginning, Claud has been open about their struggles and journey of discovering their gender identity and sexuality. With so much attention from young individuals discovering their own identities, Claud has made room for these revelations in music. The singer often addresses these topics in their music, sharing their own stories. Claud’s most recent single, “I Wish You Were Gay” covers falling for someone who doesn’t share the same sexual orientation as you do. Just like this song, their other songs cover similar ideas and find a way to be relatable and uniquely charming to almost anyone. Claud is creating what so many of their young followers need; music that carries honest depictions of love and heartbreak. The singer’s most recent album “Super Monster” captures that and more in an original coming-of-age tale. For fans of Clairo, Girl In Red, or Phoebe Bridgers, you will not want to miss Claud.
