Moon Knight First Episode Review

Moon Knight First Episode Review

The first episode of “Moon Knight” is available to stream on Disney+. New episodes release every Wednesday until May 4. Here is a “Moon Knight” first episode review.

The Goldfish Problem

Titled “The Goldfish Problem,” Steven Grant, played by Oscar Isaac, learns he may be a superhero of some sort. He also learns he may share a body with a mercenary. Oscar Isaac plays not only Steven Grant, but Marc Spector and Moon Knight as well. Isaac’s character in the show struggles with dissociative identity disorder. The actor is tasked with playing several different personalities throughout the show, proving his talent in the acting world.

Episode One Plot

Steven Grant works as a museum gift shop employee and assumes he has a sleeping disorder. He ties himself to his bed every night to ensure he will not roam the streets at night. The character obsesses over ancient Egypt and soon finds himself in danger. Arthur Harrow, played by Ethan Hawke, is quickly established as our “bad guy.” Harrow is a deadly cult leader who gives out mortal punishments on behalf of Ammit, an Egyptian Goddess.

Soon enough, Isaac’s character is flipping between Steven Grant and Marc Spector. Spector seems to work for Khonshu, an Egyptian moon god. The second half of the episode focuses on Grant learning he may have more than one identity. Soon enough, we see Moon Knight suited up when Grant allows Spector to take full control of his body.

Overall, this first episode introduction of Moon Knight to the Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is a solid one. It will be interesting to see how the show builds the character on its own, with no hints or breadcrumbs left from other MCU pieces. The six-episode limited series will likely wrap up with a hint to a future MCU show or film. Only time will tell. Here is the “Moon Knight” trailer.
