Amanda Seyfried Is The Star In The Dropout

Amanda Seyfried is the star in “The Dropout” as Elizabeth Holmes. Based on the true story, Seyfried excellently portrays the criminal fraud. Founder of the medical company Theranos, Holmes is one of the greatest female fraudsters in recent years.

How It Starts

The story is too good to pass up and makes a great television drama. This eight-episode miniseries gives us insight into the life of Holmes and her persistence. The antihero is first introduced as an 11-year-old, running slowly in a race that her classmates have already completed. The teacher asks Holmes to give up, but she does not.

Amanda Seyfried And Her Performance

Seyfried’s performance makes us feel for Holmes, even though she is a chaotic individual. Holmes is desperate to make a name for herself but eventually falls into a bed of corruption and lies. She built Theranos from the ground up and was the same person to bring it all down. She made a promise to investors that her technology would work. When they invested and it hit the market, it put actual people’s lives at risk.

Similar Shows

The series is created by Elizabeth Meriweather. Meriweather also created the fan-favorite comedy “New Girl.” It will likely remind you of a long list of documentaries or scripted series based on Holmes’ downfall. Holmes is the hero in the first few episodes of the series and I hope that as it continues, it will reveal her true colors. Similar plot lines are not hard to find in other entrepreneurial shows, but Seyfried’s performance is just too good to pass up. Not only does the show star Seyfried, but has major, fellow actors such as Naveen Andrews, Michaela Watkins, Anne Archer, and many more.

The Future of The Dropout

Only three episodes of the mini-series have been released thus far. Amanda Seyfried does a great job as the star in “The Dropout.” It will be interesting to see how the last five episodes wrap up Holmes’ storyline. The biggest question is if it will remain historically accurate. New episodes release every Thursday until the season finale on April 7. The trailer for the show is online here.
