The Garment Fall 2023

The Garment Fall 2023

The Garment, a Danish brand, debuted their Fall 2023 collection during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Co-founded by Sophia Roe and Charlotte Eskildsen, the brand holds a core tenet of Scandinavian fashion – timeless minimalism.

Now, the creative duo is an unlikely one as Roe is a young influencer and Eskildsen a veteran designer. They came together due to a love of minimalism and all it encapsulates from neutral palettes to sustainability.

A slight push and pull between the young and old(er), timeless and trendy is on full display in the collection. Layered garments that can be coined as work-leisure are followed by sheer tops and dresses. This pattern could become tiresome but the duo manage to showcase good tailoring and deconstruction in the repetition.

The Collection

Opening the show was a cozy outfit for cold weather. It is a casual leather jacket with serrated patterns with knit and gray trousers. The following look is an ivory suit with a strapless bra-top and dark brown loafers. The material in the latter is crisp and impeccably tailored.

The next few looks are when layering takes on its full potential. A model steps out in an oversized black utility esque jacket with a high neck and scarf wrapped as a skirt. The look is complete with worn brown loafers and crumpled knee high socks. Another model wears a dark gray suit paired with a knit skirt. The outfits feel lived in and the latter has a 90s Hermès feel.

Deconstruction comes out in full force in the middle of the collection. An all black look has strips cut from the trousers and a stripped down top pokes out of a long coat in another outfit. Vests are also abundant in this show, and paired with sheer midi skirts or trousers.

Closing the show are Roe and Eskildsen themselves. Roe is dressed in key elements of the collection – an asymmetrically buttoned vest with skirts over a trouser. Eskildsen opts for a gray knit with a Peter Pan collar and loose trousers.
