Dior SS24 Fashion Show

Paris Fashion Week is in full swing, and the looks have been iconic to say the least. Maria Grazia Chiuri of Christian Dior took the opportunity to curate looks rooted in female empowerment. But, this is not out of the blue for Chiuri—her first Dior collection debuted the revolutionary “We Should All Be Feminists” tee for Spring Summer 2017, worn by a multitude of celebrities, such as Rihanna. Following this, Chiuri made it a point to continue the conversation through her work. In fact, the show notes stated that the collection stems “from a reflection on the meaning of the present. A present in which past and future must coexist simultaneously.” Even though indulging in fashion is the purpose of attendance, the current social and political climate should not be ignored.

The Masculine and Feminine

The vibrant runway completely juxtaposed the garments. The color palette consisted of strictly white, beige, black, and gray. Masculine and feminine silhouettes worked in harmony. For example, the puffy skirt is reminiscent of flower petals—it flows ever so effortlessly as you walk. Paired with a parody of the typical men’s work button up, the one-shoulder makes the look feel edgy. The two garments may not seem like they go together, but they just do. Like everything in the Dior fashion show.

Something’s Off…

As Chiuri dismantles the patriarchy, she also destroys her work. A variety of pieces were shredded and reattached, giving the garment a demolished feel. With capri-style bottoms, its frayed edge keeps the look consistent. Topped off with gladiator style ballet flats, Chiuri successfully plays with shape and form. The model sported a slicked back bun so the audience was forced to study the fashionably random look. The Zoe Report dubs this the “something’s off” aesthetic, which I think is the perfect name for such a fit.
