Timberland Brings Urban Greening Initiative to Harlem

Timberland Brings Urban Greening Initiative to Harlem

Yesterday, 150 volunteers from TimberlandJourneys and the Student Conservation Association joined forces to beautify the grounds and create a living roof to offset carbon atop the Thomas Jefferson Recreation Center in Harlem. This is one of three urban greening events taking place this fall – the others being in Chicago and Los Angeles – to fulfill the third year of Timberland’s five-year commitment to create or restore green spaces in urban landscapes.  Projects at today’s event included the installation of a “living roof” on the rec center, which will offset carbon emissions and reduce heating and cooling costs; tree and shrub plantings; and overall beautification of the grounds. The living roof project also contributes to New York Parks & Recreation Department’s commitment to bring one million square feet of green roof space to NYC.

Special guests included Timberland executives such as Global Brand President Jim Pisani, along with Instagram and

YouTube phenom Mahogany Lox (@mahoganylox), who is partnering with Timberland and Journeys this

season as a brand ambassador. An active member of her native Los Angeles community, Ms. Lox will participate in the

Los Angeles urban greening events.
