The biggest night of fashion was Monday, The Met Gala, where celebrities from all over the world came to celebrate the newest Met museum exhibit, which this year is dedicated to the late German designer, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. To showcase Karl Lagerfeld’s influences throughout fashion, it’s his personal style or multiple collections with Channel, Chloe, Fendi, and his very own collection Karl Lagerfeld Label. The annual met gala has been in existence dating back to 1948, created as a benefit for a yearly fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. —one of the most challenging invites on earth to receive. The Gala ticket costs 50,000 dollars, and a table costs a quarter million. Why is the Annual benefit such a huge deal? That is because the matriarch of fashion herself, Anna Wintour, global fashion icon and editor-in-chief of Vogue, has been co-chaired since 1995. Anna Wintour and Vogue staff plan for this event months in advance, going over every detail from decorations to the guest list; it all has to be approved by Anna. This year’s theme was in honor of designer Karl Lagerfeld, fame designer and polarizing figure in fashion for 60 years. Karl Lagerfeld passed back in 2019. He was an infamous figure that caught multiple headlines, from controversial headlines and issues with #metoo movement to fatphobic comments. Nonetheless, this year’s met gala was a remarkable tribute to the genius fashion designer and friend to many of the famous attendees. This year’s co-chairs are Penelope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and of course, Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The role of the co-chairs includes helping curate the guest list, working with chefs to create the thematic menu, and helping define the atmosphere by assisting interior designers with décor design choices for the event. The event this year was extraordinary. The celebrity guests on the Met carpet put their A-game out for the world—stars like Jlo , who wore custom Ralph Lauren. Kerry Washington wore Michael Kors . Actress Anne Hathaway wore custom Versace . There were also a few unique and unexpected announcements, such as Karlie Kloss and Serena Williams both debut pregnancies on the Met Gala carpet.
