Runway Trend Recap from LFW 2017

Runway Trend Recap from LFW 2017

AUTUMN/WINTER

  • Neon shades of color

Neon bright colors was a popular choice amongst designers such as Christopher Shannon and J.W. Anderson. As winter trends usually seem to revolve around monochromatic, dark hues, many menswear designers made their collections pop in varieties of neon. Neon shades of green, pink, orange, and yellow was displayed on runways in Milan, London, and Paris. This comes to show that if your wardrobe is starting to look too simplistic in its undertones, it’s always good to throw in a burst of color to stand out.

  • Colorblock patchwork

Influential as ever, colorblock has been spotted all over this season’s runway. However, what was different from the usual colorblock pattern was the idea of mismatched separate colors. Some designers like Bobby Abley and Alex Mullins went all out by splitting the colors of the piece in half. This modern twist on colorblock trends ultimately set the bar, giving the wearer more of an edgy style.

  • Puffer jackets

As timeless as puffer jackets always are for the winter season, they are risen to become something more than the ordinary winter staple. While designers have been struggling to fulfill our endless need for functionality, Casely-Hayford and Astrid Andersen have successfully curated fashion-forward pieces that’s wearable.

  • Crop tops

If crop tops are the last item in your wardrobe that you want to be seen in this winter season, think again. This year’s array of menswear designers has set standards for winter layering with the pairing of crop tops. For Bobby Abley, hoodies were shortened, as well as promoting extra warmth with fur. Xander Zhou reinforced the idea of winter layering with knitted crop tops layered over formal tops.

Almost seen in every brand and easily wearable, camouflage has impeded itself once again as a hit trend on this year’s runway that focuses on the way you wear it. While previous seasons fixated on what defines the print, the AW17 is transforming the entire outlook of camo print to be casual and worn almost anywhere.

  • Wide-leg trousers

While women’s fashion seems to incorporate lots of wide-leg trousers, the autumn/winter fashion show mimicked that trend into their own. Now, baggy trousers are everywhere. As a personal favorite of mine, these floor-length, flowy styles are a must-have in any wardrobe. Turning to wide-leg trousers is the best way to obtain a more relaxed look into your everyday style.
