The Reign of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci
A New Gucci
Alessandro Michele has been Gucci‘s Creative Director for the past year and a half. Michele was been kicking up a storm for Gucci’s PR and sales. Michele worked under the last Creative Director Frida Giannini for many years. It is funny because Michele was an up and coming designer within his own means. At Gucci, I bet he had no idea he would become creative director. Michele worked for Gucci for over 12 years before he was Creative Director. In 2006, Michele was the Leather Accessories Design Director. Later in May 0f 2011, Michele became an associate for Frida Giannini.
I had watched the movie ‘The Director’ featuring Gucci and Frida Giannini. Giannini’s approach to Gucci was far more sexy and sultry in design. It was classical in respect to Italian fashion. After Frida Giannini’s sudden departure as Creative Director, Michele was appointed for the job. He was able to pull together the Fall 2015 Men’s collection in a week.
Under Frida Giannini, Gucci’s sales were rising from 2006. Unfortunately in time, Gucci’s began to lose credibility in the fashion industry. In 2013, Gucci saw sales dropping at an alarming rate and they needed a change. In turn, they replaced Gucci’s CEO Patrizio Di Marco and Frida Giannini.
Alessandro Michele has been Gucci’s saving grace for the past year and a half. I have notified people have started wearing and buying Gucci again. It has been completely reinvented. When I am able to see garments and feel something, that is how I know I like it. Every time, I look at his new collections I am left wanting more.
Over the past year you may have heard the term Gucci Snake or have seen those cool loafer slipper with fur. He has revolutionized the iconic Gucci loafer. He have brought life and the youth back to Gucci again. I once lived in the the small town of Florence in 2014 were the headquarters of Gucci is, and I never really saw anyone wearing Gucci except for the accessories. Now, I am sure the founder of Gucci, Guccio Gucci would be proud to see Gucci now.
