NYFW 2026 Day 1 Quick Roundup
NYFW is back in full swing and every day is just as packed as the one before so here’s a recap of day one of fashion’s annual return to the city.
While Thursday may have been the official day one of NYFW, several notable houses chose to show their SS27 collections on Wednesday. Coach, Cult Gaia, and Ralph Lauren all chose to forgo the various kickoff parties happening that day across the city and gave fashion enthusiasts an early preview of the week to come. Thursday saw the first collection to be shown at NYFW for Diane von Furstenberg in nearly a decade as well as a surprise closing performance at Tommy Hilfiger by Slayyyter.
Coach SS27
Coach kicked off the NYFW celebration with party hats and sequins of their own in honor of the house’s 85th anniversary. The collection featured an array of cool toned dresses, trousers, and overcoats. With the exception of a few of the final pieces towards the end of the showcase, most of the collection seems to be better suited for late fall/early winter as opposed to spring/summer.
Cult Gaia SS27
Cult Gaia’s collection titled “Behesht” meaning the Persian word for heaven encapsulated designer Jasmin Larian Hekmat’s own journey with processing grief she has felt due to the loss of her grandmother earlier this year. The looks begin in a dark and jewel-toned palette only to end in a much lighter and airy place, reminiscent of Hekmat’s own journey with grief.
Ralph Lauren SS27
Ralph Lauren’s latest collection was highly reminiscent of the house’s previous spring/summer collections in regard to the initial color palette of varying shades of pinks, blues, and greens but this collection felt like a blend of the the bohemian look many houses tend to lean towards for spring/summer collections with a Victorian inspiration. The inclusion of pocket watches, oversized brooches, feathers, and even straw boater hats made the collection come across as a new take on an old world look.
Diane von Furstenberg/DVF SS27
DVF’s return to NYFW was heavy on the jewel tones and geometric patterns and every piece evoked inspiration from 1970s office couture. Flowy silk button downs, perfectly tailored midi skirts and trousers walked down the runway seamlessly with mini and sheer dresses that showed metallic hot pants peaking through. This collection was the first to be shown at NYFW that wasn’t designed by Furstenberg herself. The baton has now been passed down to Henry Zankov who had worked in his early years in the DVF Studio before working on his own collection in Brooklyn.
Tommy Hilfiger SS27
Hilfiger brought his classic Americana look to the lobby of the Plaza Hotel which consisted primarily of tailored pants, oversized tops and jackets, sharp collars, and of course an array of hats. Supermodel Gigi Hadid opened the runway to much fanfare and Romeo Beckham, son of British cultural icons David and Victoria Beckham closed it out.
