Molly & Gidget Interview

Molly & Gidget Interview

In any conversation held about the hottest fashion labels out right now, one must mention the red carpet ready fashion brand, Molly & Gidget, who have established themselves as one of the top women-empowered fashion brands seen on red carpets, runways, and music clients today. Molly & Gidget scored a spot on the ‘CMA’s Best Dressed’ list at this year’s awards, next to Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, and Carly Pearce. The brand certainly made a splash and an impression on anyone who laid eyes on the emerald green looks worn that night by American country music group Runaway June. Want your look to stand out and be on the cover of every “best dressed” list? If so, you will be drawn to the unique line with Molly & Gidget and be draped in show-stopping styles to Go Your Own Direction and know how to stand out. We had the opportunity of getting to know the brand more with our interview!

  • Would you let us know more about your brand?

A: Molly and Gidget started in August of 2011 in South Dakota by me (TK). Named after my family toy poodles, Molly and Gidget, the concept was to mesh two style worlds into one shopping destination – iconic and stylish meets bold and one-of-a-kind style. Over the last 12 years, the concept of the brand has remained the same but the brand itself has evolved into a high-end fashion label offering one-of-a-kind and custom looks exclusively for red carpet, runway and music clients.

  • Is there any reason you created the Red Carpet Ready Fashion Brand?

A: Stage and red carpet designing has always been my forte and true passion. I grew up as a rodeo queen and designed all of my competition outfits – majority were stage looks. And that style of design came naturally to me. The more sparkle, the better in my book – and that fits more red carpet and stage than every day looks. And the designers that I’ve always looked up to such as Bob Mackie, Nudie Cohen, Manuel and Balmain design for stage and red carpet.

  •  Do you have any items you would love to introduce in the collection?

A: Any of our leather pieces are our staples. Fringe leather jackets, rough edge skirts and tops, and leather studded dresses are what we have become known for. In contrast, our rhinestone lapel blazers aka our “Sparkle Jackets” have also become popular over the years.

  • As a designer, you always work to create something new, something beautiful. Where do you look for creative inspiration?

A: Vintage fashion has always been a major source of inspo along with musicals, old Hollywood movies, westerns, etc. But, to keep my designs current – I study a lot of runway shows from Paris and NYC. I also have a stack of Vogue magazines by my bed that helps me keep up on the industry so I know what’s a classic design that will last vs. trendy, fast fashion.

  • What is the message your brand wants to send to its customers?

A: Our motto is always to “Go Your Own Direction,” meaning we promote unapologetically bold uniqueness and personal style. No one ever remembers the girl who looked like everyone else. So why fit in when you were born to stand out?

  • Can you share any wishes for the New Year? (It could be for yourself or your brand)

A: Professionally – we are focusing on getting more custom looks on major red carpets like the ACMs and CMAs as well as creating more one-of-a-kind stage looks for tours and festivals like Stagecoach and Coachella.

A: Personally – I just got engaged so my goal is to have one epic looking wedding dress. I also will be sharing some energy in mentoring future female designers and stylists of tomorrow. I’m a small town girl, and I have had to forge my path in this industry by myself. I’ve gotten to a point where it’s time to turn around and give a helping hand to those aspiring to do what I do.
