Fashion and Food:

We love fashion and we love food. What more than a better combination of two very extremely versatile worlds blending together. I will be introducing you to FoodMasku, an artist that makes food into masks. It sounds absolutely absurd, but their creations are out of this world. They have all the food items you can think of. What sparks me most about this artist is how they are able to create messages within their craft.

Moreover, food is an important aspect of culture, it is something that shapes who we are. Similar to clothing, food brings people together and allows you to claim that self-identity. Like fashion, food is an art form, FoodMasku, also known as Antonius Oki Wiriadjaja, constructs their masks with poking sticks, clips, and rubber bands. These pieces end up covering the majority of the face, just leaving the eyes for exposure at a minimum. So why food and masks? The symbolism comes into play for many reasons.

When we think about food, it is different for every individual. Some think of food as just nutrition,  and others adopt a lifestyle. The food pieces covering Antonius’ face in my opinion, represent his humor even though he is making a serious face.
