The Hanifa Brand Creates 3D Fashion Collection
Hanifa brand makes history with a 3D fashion show via Instagram live.
Due to COVID-19, fashion shows and events that were set to display collections by designers had to be put on hold. Designers are starting to find creative ways to promote their fashion collections via social media.
ANIFA MVUEMA
Congolese designer Anifa Mvuema created a digital catwalk show live-streamed on May 22, 2020. The runway show displaying looks from her Pink Label Congo clothing line in the form of 3D renders draped on “invisible” models.
Speaking to Teen Vogue, Mvuemba revealed she had the idea for a virtual runway show before the lockdown restrictions were enforced.
“Designing content using 3D models and now an entire collection has been a complete game changer for me. It actually requires an even greater amount of attention-to-detail for the clothes to fit and look just right,” she said.
To date, the videos from Mvuema’s runway show has over two hundred thousand views on Twitter alone. Mvuema’s inspiration for the capsule collection came from the “majestic women” of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
She incorporated the colors of the Congolese flag and the textiles native to her native lands. She hopes her brand will shed light on the historical disparities in central Africa.
IN CONCLUSION…
This virtual 3D fashion show by Hanifa shows just how far Mvuema is willing to carve her path. Moreover, technology has always been at the forefront of the brand with the use of social media to create a direct-to-consumer business.
After the pandemic is over, it will be interesting to see how this single high-tech fashion show can impact the whole industry. Will other brands also start investing in virtual 3D fashion shows, or is that still too futuristic?
