Mariah Carey had a Low-key Alternative Rock Phase. Fans want all of it.

The “Fantasy” singer will be releasing her first memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey”, this Tuesday. Folks are more concerned with a secret she dropped yesterday.

“Fun fact: I did an alternative album while I was making Daydream. Just for laughs, but it got me through some dark days,” she tweeted. “Here’s a little of what I wrote about it in #TheMeaningOfMariahCarey. S/O to my friend Clarissa who performs the lead w/ me as a hidden layer.”

The video reveals an unreleased track of an alternative rock queen coming to life. You can sense a whole different level of confidence and freedom in her voice.

“I was playing with the style of the breezy-grunge, punk-light while female singers who were popular at the time. You know the ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image. They could be angry, angsty, and messy, with old shoes, wrinkled slips, and unruly eyebrows, while every move I made was so calculated and manicured. I wanted to break free, let loose, and express my misery—but I also wanted to laugh. I totally looked forward to doing my alter-ego band session after Daydream each night.”

How would Carey’s music and fanbase be today had she went public with the album? Would she have collabed with 90s alt-rock stars Alanis Morissette or Gwen Stefani?

Now, fans are begging for the project to be released. The R&B artist could take a chance and bless us once more.
