Indie Source Helps Front Line Workers with the “Buy One Give One” Face M ask Program

Los Angeles-based Indie Source, an apparel manufacturer who pivoted to making masks after Mayor Eric Garcetti recommended that the city’s residents wear face masks when out in public, has a goal of donating 50,000 masks to Los Angeles based front line workers, with their “buy one, give one” donation program.

They’ve reached 8,000 of that goal and roamed the streets of Los Angeles in a “Face Mask Truck”, which was a converted ice cream truck. Drawing onlookers and smiles, CEO Zack Hurley and friend Mit Vyas drove throughout Los Angeles and handed masks out to policeman, street cleaners, garbage workers, food service workers, security guards – anyone working on the front lines. The day ended with dropping a bag with hundreds of masks to nurses at LADMC medical center.

“It’s not enough to just mail these masks, we wanted to get out there and thank these workers in person,” says Hurley.

Named “Independence” the masks feature:

  • 100% woven cotton outer & inner + comfortable elastic trim
  • One size fits all (2.75″ height x 8/14″ nose x 7 1/8 chin). Color & fabric will vary.
  • Machine washable
  • Pocket opening above nose bridge adds filter (disposable HEPA filters, coffee filters, and vacuum filters are all quite effective!)
  • Not a substitute for N95 surgical/procedural masks – Not FDA approved
