“To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful, and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your dreams.” These words, written on her Instagram account in Dec. 2019 capture the heartbeat of athlete, businesswoman, and influencer Santia Deck.
Deck, who was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “En Fuego” publication is, as SI put it, “making history.” In January, Deck became the first woman to sign a multimillion dollar contract to play professional football. Deck will join the LA Fames, an all women’s tackle football team in what is being described as an all women tackle football league set to debut in 2021. Deck has worked hard to be a top athlete. She grew up doing track and was an olympic hopeful before she lost the opportunity due to injury. Though she excelled at track, she competed in college for Texas A&M-Kingsville, Deck spent her childhood in Texas, making football an inevitable first love. This record breaking contract brings her back to those roots.
Her football historic football deal also led to an endorsement with the football company High and Tight.
Athletics have become a hotbed on social media and Deck took that medium to the next level by starting an athletic training account where she is known as the “Queen of Abs.” The training she does makes it clear to the millions of eyes watching her that she is definitely ready for professional football.
While Deck makes history on the gridiron, she is also bobbing and weaving her way to history in the sneaker world, becoming the first female athlete to own her own shoe company. Now, that is a step up from just having your own sneaker line. Tronus will be her brand to control, grow, and develop. And at the start of this year she dropped her first shoe.
The first sneaker elegantly line combines Deck’s need for speed and her love of fashion. Check them out on her website, Tronusofficial.com.
In her interview with SI, Deck said she always dreamed of retiring at 30. With over half-a-million followers on Instagram, a shoe company, and a multimillion dollar football contract she very well might be able to do that. But even when she retires, she will always have the power and influence to reach out and engage the young woman who dream of following in her footsteps, who will stream through the crack she made in the glass ceiling of the male-dominated sports and sneaker world. For now, Deck will work non-stop to reach every goal she sets her mind to — we cannot wait to see what history she makes next.
