It has been difficult looking through social media. Myself and many others still carry anxious thoughts as the election results are taking place. However, it is important that we use our platforms to promote activism and educate others on what is going on. On my daily scroll of Instagram, I came across Beauty Guru, Matt Bernstein. With over 500K followers, this makeup artist is based in New York and goes by He/Him. Not only is his talent amazing, but his makeup has messages. He uses makeup as an emotional tool to speak out and I think that is creative and brave.

To speak up and use your voice is something extremely powerful. Matt uses his Instagram platform to discuss political and social issues. He is part of the LGBTQIA+ community and speaks on his experience of coming out with makeup. His makeup looks have written messages for those to read and reflect on. His color palette consists of vibrant and bright shades. The brighter shades are symbolic to hope. His art allows people to feel seen and heard.

During this critical time, it is crucial to take some self-care and check up on friends as we move into this next phase. Try keeping a routine, and if needed it is okay to take days off. Make sure to keep safe and hydrated. We have so many thoughts running through our minds, but you voted and you are doing your best.
