THE BOOK OF HOV EXHIBIT IN BROOKLYN

The Brooklyn Library and Roc Nation have partnered to create The Book of HOV, an exhibit celebrating the life of Brooklyn’s finest Jay-Z.

The Book of HOV is free and open to the public. It’s located at 10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11238. The Brooklyn Library confirmed on Instagram that the exhibit will be open throughout the summer, but haven’t given a date for when it will shut down.

The art gallery is two levels that feature archives throughout Jay-Z’s long tenured hip-hop career.

When entering the exhibit, you will see murals of Jay-Z. Things including magazine covers, Grammys, Emmys, portraits, and sculptures will also be seen in the library.

First level

On the first level you have a sculpture replicating his iconic two-time platinum album The Blue Print 3. The artwork is a collage of instruments such as the piano, trumpet, drums and saxophone.

Jay-Z formed Roc Nation in 2008 after Def Jam turned down his collaboration deal. When the company started, it was a music label, but it would later transform into new creative things. It transitioned into management, production, acquisitions, music publishing and investment.

It later transitioned into the sports world after Jay-Z met with baseball player Robinson Canó in agreement to sign with Roc Nation, making him the first athlete to the company. Canó signing would later lead him to make the third largest deal in Major League Baseball history at ten-year $240 million.

Second level

On the second level, it’s a cinema of big screen tv’s with pictures including Jay-Z and magazines that talk about him. There is also a trophy case with a Brooklyn Nets jersey, a Glastonbury festival guitar, and a New York Yankees hat.

This section of the second level is called Hov Did That.

Jay-Z’s nickname was HOV which is short for Hova. Jehovah is the Hebrew name for God.

Library Cards

The Brooklyn Library and Roc Nation have created 13 limited edition library cards featuring photos of Jay-Z’s previous album covers. According to the Brooklyn Library, visitors can collect all 13 cards at different branches across the borough.
