MICHAEL J WOODARD NEW SINGLE, “FACE,”

Genre-bending singer-songwriter Michael J Woodard returns with a soul-baring new single, “FACE.” His gorgeous vocals shine as he sings of self-discovery and finding the courage to verbalize his deepest feelings. Released today via Unsub Records – the indie label founded by Katy Perry, who has championed Woodard since his days as a finalist on “American Idol”.

“‘Face’ is a record that is so special to me. It’s about the struggle of not being able to verbalize the way you feel about someone you love, yet the emotion is clearly expressed on your face.I wanted to capture the feeling of liking someone and just not being able to hide it. The lyrics capture the disorienting nature of feeling so strongly for someone but only being able to express your feelings through your facial expressions. I hope you love it and it gives you all the feels”

The official video for “FACE” puts a surreal spin on Woodard’s internal journey. Hooked up to an IV, he finds himself in a remote desert location amid a group of people with shrouded faces. The striking video was directed by Janush Libicki (American Authors, GG Magree), Woodard’s main visual collaborator, who also helmed the video for his recent single “Trouble.”

Woodard grew up in Philadelphia, singing in church and at the performing arts elementary school he attended. By the time he was 13, he had sung at such high-profile events as the US Open and performed for Barack Obama when the then-president visited Philadelphia. He developed his vocal chops and songwriting acumen, working in the home studio he created and sharing the results online. After high school, Woodard headed to Hollywood to study at Musicians Institute.

While he loved their program, he recalls, “I just wanted to go out there and make it all happen.” Soon he found himself in the Top 5 on “American Idol,” signed to Unsub Records and voicing the title character in the Netflix animated musical film and TV series, Arlo The Alligator Boy. Praising WoodardAtwood Magazine said, “It’s a rare treat to find an artist who doesn’t attempt to mask their joy for their craft behind mystique or the guise of ‘coolness.’”

“When I go into the studio, I always feel like the possibilities are endless,” says Woodard. “I could go all day coming up with harmonies and melodies and never burn out, because it’s all so magical to me.”
