XXL Freshman Miles Minnick Releases “UHH”
Continuing to disrupt expectations of what Hip Hop can look and sound like, Miles Minnick links with Lecrae and nobigdyl. For “UHH,” a high-energy new single that pulls from the bounce and personality of old-school Hip Hop while staying unmistakably rooted in the Bay. Following “DTMB,” the collaboration reveals another side of Miles’ range as he builds toward his forthcoming album, Christlike University, arriving November 6, via Empire and available to pre-save HERE.
“UHH” reaches back to the infectious rhythms, drums and call-and-response energy of an earlier era of Hip Hop, filtered through Miles’ distinctly West Coast perspective. There is a looseness to the record that gives each artist room to bring their own personality, with Miles, Lecrae and nobigdyl. trading verses over production that feels nostalgic without getting stuck in the past. The result is playful, confident and unmistakably Bay Area-coded.
“‘UHH’ got that feeling to it. Soon as you hear it, you know what time it is,” says Miles. “We tapped into that old-school Hip Hop energy, but you know I had to put that Bay on it. Lecrae and nobigdyl. both came in and did what they do. Everybody got their own flavor on the record. Everything we’ve been building is leading to Christlike University, and now we’re bringing everybody to the University with us.”
