Tinashe is All About ‘Comfort & Joy’ This Christmas With New EP

Singer Tinashe has all the festive moods with her surprise Christmas EP “Comfort & Joy” which puts a positive twist on 2020’s socially distant holiday season. The seven track project is homemade and exhibits the singer’s clean and  immaculate R&B sound which further highlights her creative freedom as an independent artist.

‘Comfort & Joy” is the second project from Tinashe that follows her album “Songs for You” which capitalizes on her growth as an independent artist. In a recent interview with Indie Magazine, she mentions how her creative process has changed when it comes to making music.

“I have way more confidence in myself as a songwriter,” she said. “As the head of creative, I really kind of steer the ship, as opposed to maybe when I was younger, when I would work with people who are more successful than me, kind of allowing them to dictate where the session went or the song went. Now I don’t want to waste any time doing that. I look at it differently. Like, let’s just get to what I want to create.”

“Comfort & Joy” is an impressive body of work composed and written by Tinashe herself. The project opens with “Comfort & Joy (intro)” which features a throwback soundbite of a young Tinashe and her siblings shouting “It’s Christmas!” which sets the tone for the EP as a whole.

The following track “God Rest Ye Merry Christmas” includes her delicate high pitched vocals where she repeats the infectious chorus “Comfort and Joy” over a steady bass heavy trap beat. The listener is then shifted to a more uptempo sound with “Angels we Have Heard on High” and “Last Christmas” in which both present a modern spin on the Christmas classics with beats that are reminiscent of an innovative lighthearted early 2000s theme underlined with the singer’s authentic tone.

The EP then unwinds with “The Christmas song” in which the singer turned into a raw and stripped down piano ballet that further isolates her robust vocal talent. The track also generates a sense of warm nostalgia which can serve as a theme song for a frigid snowy day. “O Holy Night” is another ballet that further captivates the listener with a soft electric guitar ending which is a signature of Tinashe’s distinctive sound. The last holiday classic on the EP “Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas” includes a guitar based mid tempo beat sprinkled with the sound of jingle bells to ring in the spirit of Christmas.
