Taylor Swift debuts “I Knew it, I Knew You” at Toy Story 5 Premiere
On Tuesday, June 9th, Toy Story 5 held its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The night was filled with fun, laughter, good vibes and some extravagant surprises! Fans are gearing up for the 5th edition of the Toy Story Franchise featuring a toys-versus-technology storyline. But, as with any top notch film, a top tier soundtrack must accompany it.
This soundtrack is headlined by multi-platinum 14-time grammy award winning artist Taylor Swift‘s new single “I Knew it, I Knew You.” The track is supposedly inspired by the character Jessie. It is written by Swift herself and pal Jack Antonoff. The song released on Friday, June 5th.
Fans have openly praised the new single for its upbeat country and nostalgic vibe. It’s everything you need in a children’s movie. Especially something so iconic as the Toy Story Franchise. The global superstar took to her instagram to explain the importance of the tune with a heartwarming callback from the previous 4 films, “Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature. And being a Toy Story kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.“
But even so, no on expected Swift to hop on stage Tuesday night to debut the new track. 3000 screaming fans were treated to something truly magical. The song exemplifies what Toy Story is: It’s there to make you laugh yes, but also to learn about yourself. The Franchise has a special place in the hearts of so many. Swift herself perfecting exemplifies this, “I would just love to say it means the world to me to be a small part of the universe of these films and Toy Story 5 is my favorite of all of the Toy Stories. I’m so lucky that I get to be a part of this, she explained on stage after concluding her newest single.
You’ve Got a Friend in Me!
And wait, there’s more. Because that wasn’t the only surprise performance of the night! After Swift performed “I Knew it, I Knew You” and proclaimed her adoration for the Franchise itself, the beloved pop star had one more trick up her sleeve. She went on to introduce 82 year old singer, songwriter and composer Randy Newman. Of course Newman wrote and sings the iconic “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” that appears in every Toy Story movie to date.
It’s only fair Newman and Swift give the fans a performance like no other. And that they did. A beautiful duet between the two legends transpired after Newman came out with a piano and Swift asked, “You feel like um You feel like playing a song? You’re all set up to do it!” The iconic score begins and the two artists never look back. The Toy Story 5 Premiere was a night to remember!
