Polo G Says he’s Got a “Weight on My Shoulders”
On Friday, June 12th, Multi-Platinum artist Polo G dropped his new single “Weight on my Shoulders”. This is the rappers’ 4th release of the year to accompany his latest three singles. Only this track is different. This track is meaningful, heartfelt and celebrates a deeply personal achievement. Friday is the anniversary of the rapper’s 1 year sobriety and this track is in honor of that remarkable feat. The journey to sobriety is no easy achievement!
The Chicago based rapper has struggled with the misuse of drugs and alcohol from a young age. Growing up in the city’s north side, what he would describe as the ‘trenches’, it’s difficult to disassociate yourself with street activity. But now, in 2026, it seems Taurus Bartlett has it all figured out. ‘Weight on My Shoulders’ explores the struggle of addition and the affect it has on one’s morals. The title itself point’s to the pressure and emotion he’s carrying with himself daily,” A lot of shit ain’t never changed when I got older, uh /
He tryna bust a brain and go nuts / Traumatized by that dead body’s odor, we all got colder.” Weighed down by trauma, yet he still rises above it.
But moreover. the song is about his journey to sobriety. The emotional melody is on a hard hitting, classic rap record. This is reflective of Polo G’s style as he blends emotional, passionate and vulnerable lyrics on a traditional rap beat. The songs reads as a reflection of the pressure he’s received while attempting to stay clean this past year.
The rapper took to his instagram to announce and explain the song last week, “Officially 1YR Sober🫶🏾….Key Words Here “GROWTH” & “DISCIPLINE” Im Beyond proud and happy fa myself for the Man i’ve been able to become thru will power. We all gat the potential to be who we really wanna be we just gotta find it within ourselves. But yea To Celebrate I’m putting out a single this Friday🌟.
Polo G currently has no upcoming concerts or set tour dates with his last tour being in the fall of 2024 titled ‘The Hood Poet‘. Stay tuned for any surprise shows or festival appearances in 2026!
