Some Background

Injury Reserve is a hip hop trio formed in 2013 in Tempe, Arizona. The group consists of rappers Stepa J. Groggs, Ritchie With A T, and producer, Parker Corey. While they began releasing music in 2013, they have truly been on the rise since then, not receiving much attraction until 2016. They released their first mixtape, Live from the Dentist Office, in 2015, which they followed with the 2016 mixtape Floss in 2019. In June of 2020, Stepa J. Groggs (pictured top left)  passed away suddenly and have only released one single since then.  By The Time I Get To Phoenix was their first album after the unexpected passing of Groggs. In a press release following the death, it is said that the album was finished mostly before Groggs’ death. The group has proved itself to be limitless in their musical endeavors, since the beginning. The trio formed early on and have pushed themselves ever since.

“Injury Reserve”

Injury Reserve has pushed their production boundaries since the start of their careers. In a recent interview, Ritchie With A T describes their aspirations, “There’s people that can make really accessible music, and there’s people who can make experimental music, but there’s only a handful of people who can do both.” The trio produces sounds unique to usual rap groups, tending to make their own songs. Before achieving any recognition, Injury Reserve played mostly at house parties due to the lack of a rap scene in Phoenix. Their most recent album, “Injury Reserve” is an attempt to make something uniquely modern of all this unfamiliarity. Much of this albums way of pushing boundaries is due to the producer of the group, Corey. Being a  self taught producer who has been eager to learn more, he found ways to achieve unique and distinctive sounds that make Injury Reserve what they are.
