Slatt Zy Releases New Single

Rapper Slatt Zy dropped a new song titled “Lean On” on April 2. Alongside the song, he also dropped a music video for it. The music video has over 500,000 views on YouTube currently. This is Zy’s second 2021 single, after “Don’t You Fold.”

Slatt ZY is an 18-year-old rapper from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He has released two albums, both in 2020. Zy Story came out in April 2020 and East Lake Projects in November 2020. Zy began recording music in 2019. On Spotify, Zy has 136,210 monthly listeners. East Lake Projects is named after the building Zy lived in as a child.

“Lean On” addresses his trauma and his experience growing up in poverty, as well as his experience working to gain fame as a rapper. In the music video, Zy is with a group of his friends in his neighborhood. Zy also mentions on his Spotify bio that he works to provide for his parents and 11 siblings. He says that he makes “real life music.”

“Nobody asked me was I straight when my broth died. Nobody asked me was I straight when my cousin died,” raps Zy.

Zy also comes from a musical background, with his father previously singing in a band with Usher.

“I came from a very large family and I come from a city where nobody really makes it out of, For whatever reason, the ones that do make it out of here, they never really claim it like that” said Zy in an interview with Lyrical Lemonade.

Zy’s lyrics largely Zy’s struggles and background. “Lean On” exemplifies this perfectly, with it being about his trauma and experience living in poverty. As Zy stated, his music is an honest portrayal of his real life experiences.

“Lean On” is available on most music streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
