Rihanna Releases First Song In 3 Years For Smurfs Movie
Rihanna fans have been begging the star for new music for years. Her last released track was the powerful ballad “Lift Me Up,” featured in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. She also had fans eagerly awaiting a new release following her Super Bowl performance in February 2023, but she made it clear at the time that her focus was on her family.
While her focus is still on her family, as she debuted her baby bump at the Met Gala earlier this month, she is making time for her career as well with the release of her new song for the “Smurfs” movie.
The new song, “Friend Of Mine,” was teased in the trailer for the upcoming film and will be released on Friday, May 16th. Rihanna stars as the voice of Smurfette, along with many other celebrities, including James Corden, John Goodman, Octavia Spencer, and Sandra Oh.
The film will also feature “Higher Love” from DESI TRILL, DJ Khaled, and Cardi B featuring Natania and Subhi. The song is sampled from “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood, also known from Whitney Houston’s cover of the song in 1990.
The well-known but mysterious DJ Marshmello will also be joining the cast. As a very private person Marshmello does not show his face and instead wears his signature marshmallow shaped helmet. He also does not often use his real voice in his music, so this dive into voice acting is a big deal for the DJ.
Directed by Chris Miller, the “Smurfs” movie follows Smurfette as she leads her tiny blue family on a mission to the real world to rescue Papa Smurf when he is taken by the evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel. Featuring a talented cast and impressive soundtrack, the film will be in theaters on July 18th.
