Material Pleasures Releases Their Latest Single “Save The Bees”
The name “Material Pleasures” was inspired by a sense of jadedness with the idea that many of our own aspirations fail to go beyond material goods. So there’s a kind of irony baked into this project, in that we’re working with (we think) a more accessible, more commercial-friendly sound than we’re used to while simultaneously, in the writing, trying to figure out who we are beyond those desires for “material pleasures”. The aesthetics are intended to reflect a surrealistic, dreamlike state that those kinds of inward journeys produce. Listen to the single below.
With them releasing their latest single “save the bees”, it showed their venture into groovy lo-fi hip-hop that you can still dance to. The lyrics play lightheartedly with the thematic question: “If romance makes me sad, and I don’t really know what I’m doing, is that okay? If the drink’s on me, is it meant to be? If I save the bees, will you fall for me?” All streaming revenue for this single will be donated to The Bee Girl Organization. The Bee Girl team engages communities across the globe, providing educational classes and resources for regenerative beekeeping. My grandfather was a beekeeper, so the cause is close to the groups heart.
