Major Lazer Plays Gov Ball After Storm Changes Plans
On Saturday, June 6th, the 15th Anniversary edition of the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City was held at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens. This years Gov Ball proved to be quite the treat with the event featuring high profile artists likeLORDE, Baby Keem, A$AP Rocky and Katseye. There was just one slight issue. The Northeast, specifically the tri-state area, experienced a storm like no other this past weekend. This would make the 15th anniversary of Gov Ball like no other. But American EDM group Major Lazer was here to save the day.
The Diplo-founded group were ready blow the roof off Gov Ball. Their high-energy sound and blend of electronic beats with Caribbean and Latin styles is perfect for the event. The group were originally set to perform on the main stage at 6:30PM, but with the menacing storm looming, that looked unlikely. The show was all but cancelled. But Major Lazer had other ideas. They didn’t come all this way for nothing. So, after further discussion with the fest, they agreed to move up the band’s performance an hour to 5:30PM. It would now feature a 45-minute slot on the smaller Snapchat Stage. It isn’t ideal, but the group made the best of it and then some.

The group rushed over to the stage and set up shop quickly. Making it just in time, Major Lazer had no no production, no rehearsal on a smaller footprint and no plan. Yet somehow, the show was an overwhelming success. A massive crowd were treated to the group’s lively and upbeat performance. If there was ever a good example for “The show must go on”, it’s this.
Major Lazer continues to put on a show for their fans. Surprisingly, weather related issues is quite the relevant topic in the music world today. On the same day, Saturday June 6th, together country star Morgan Wallen and Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania cancelled their show. But Major Lazer wouldn’t take no for an answer.
