Rising Artist Mooski Puts a Modern Twist on A Y2K Classic

Sampling songs from the early 2000’s has been an ongoing trend in the music industry for quite some time. The music from the Gen-Z era will forever have a sound and vibe that is completely unmatched. With melodies that can never go out of style, especially when new age artists like upcoming rapper Mooski put a modern spin on them, bringing new life to a vintage beat.

The Alabama made rapper recently released his latest track “Counting Time”, a rendition of Anthony Hamilton’s 2003 hit single “Charlene”. Then just days later dropped visuals for the song reimagining the memorable music video from nine years ago.

As Mooski taps into his acting skills, and does his best Anthony Hamilton impression, he sings to his now ex-lover pleading for a second chance. The song continues, and in a vulnerable state Mooski admits that he has made a heartbreaking mistake by not treating his woman properly. Viewers get some insight on the good and bad times the two shared throughout the relationship with reminiscent scenes, similar to Hamilton’s music video. “When people listen to my music they’re going to be like, ‘Mooski was in my head.’ It’s going to be personal to them,” Mooski said.

The melodic sound may be more amped up from the original version of the song due to an addition of fast paced beats, but with a similar setting, wardrobe, and lighting, you may quite literally feel as though you’re listening to the early 2000’s oldie but goodie.

“Counting Time” is one of many tracks that can be heard on Mooski’s newly released album “Melodic Therapy 4 The Broken” where the rapper opens up about personal experiences in order to give fans a lyrical work of art they can relate to. “I’m going to talk about things I was thinking and things I was going through, stuff I didn’t want to talk about. I’m going to put it in the music because I know these are things everybody is going through,” Mooski said. To watch the music video for “Counting Time” click here.
