ISABEL MARANT: The A/W MEN’S 2022 Collection

PARIS — Isabel Marant has released her autumn-winter men’s 2022 collection. It is a grunge revival with ’90s nostalgia featuring baggy pants, bucket hats, and jackets tied at the waist. With Machine Gun Kelly and Olivia Rodrigo trending, it’s no surprise this collection would highlight grunge spirit this season.
It’s an ode to nonchalance and casual fashion. In an appointment with WWD, she stated, “With the pandemic, people have been spending a lot of time in joggings and sneakers and not dressing up and nobody’s willing to wear things that you don’t feel well in.”
About the Collection
This collection is dripping with brown neutrals with pops of yellow, orange, and pale blues. There’s bucket and backpacking hats. “I always get told I need to do navy blue and gray — that’s boring. I’m not there to do that. [This shows] you can convince more conservative men — my brothers, or even my husband [designer Jérôme Dreyfuss], to go for something more [daring in style],” she said.
“Pieces are layered together and shapes are overlapping for an urban look. Out in the streets, the Isabel Marant man wears a pair of Bumkeeh, the unprecedented men’s version of the iconic wedge sneaker Balskee — one of the house’s best sellers. He is an adventurer at heart. The allure of the great outdoors is becoming more evident as boxy parkas, patchworks of shearling and oversized windbreakers slip over warm knitwear pieces. Geared for chilly weather, steppe-colored apparel is exalted by the introduction of color block activewear pieces where royal blue, bright yellow, mint green and fiery red collide.” – from Isabel Marant.
The Balskee adds almost four inches of height. It’s the 2010s wedge sneaker. “I’ve never stopped wanting to wear them. The most comfortable things are the things you will always wear and that you are never fed up with,” she said.
