NAMILIA Autumn/Winter 2017

Last week Namilia presented their Autumn/Winter 2017 collection to NYFW. It was unarguably one of the most relevant and entertaining shows of F/W 2017. Female warriors marched down the runway wearing motocross inspired garments. Namilia’s collection was inspired by female empowerment by mixing Streetwear and Haute Couture fundamentals. What I love about Namilia’s collection was that it was really masculine, and sporty yet it was sexy and feminine. Being a lingerie designer with a sportswear background, I relate a lot to Namilia’s aesthetic. I like to combine aspects of Streetwear and Haute Couture elements.

Namilia’s silouettes are what really makes them stand apart. Their silhouettes made me excited about fashion again. Business of fashion came out with an article saying they were going to stop covering as many fashion shows. Fashion shows have been over exploited and now I have started to see very similar pieces from different designers on the runway. Namilia is one of the few designers that make me feel something about their garments as the models walk down the runway. There clothing truly tells a story.

The models faces and body’s were smeared with paint. The silhouettes were very risky. High cut body suits, leather skirts, and fun jackets. Namilia featured metallic silvers, purples, bright red, camouflage, and bright yellow. All of the colors can together flawlessly. The designers Li and Pfohl have a clear direction and aesthetic that sets them apart.
