Five Great Restaurants to Try in Macao This Year

As the world slowly reopens for travel and exploration, those amongst you who like to see the world will be back on planes jetting off on a new adventure.

Traveling to a new area is invigorating and exciting, with a whole new culture to experience, sights to see and flavors to taste. For some, eating new cuisine and trying to dine like a local in different countries is all part of the lure of traveling abroad. Whether that is heading to a local food market and preparing your own, as Plant.co recommend, or simply finding a great restaurant and kicking back while someone does the hard work.

Macao in China is rapidly becoming a destination of choice, for a multitude of reasons. One is gaming, it is a hub of casinos and gaming experiences which rivals Las Vegas, but there is so much more to the area than bright lights. It may have a gaming industry seven times the size of Vegas, but it is also an area steeped in a unique and rich heritage and culture. Those not wanting to stray far from the gaming table can find top-notch eating experiences on-site, but as Poker.org discusses, there is plenty to experience in Macao away from the felt of the poker tables. After a day exploring the likes of the A-Ma temple, Seac Pai Van Park or the blend of Portuguese and Chinese architecture, why not seek out one of these five excellent dining experiences and complete your true taste of the South China Sea.

Dragon Portuguese Cuisine in Broadway

Macao was once a Portuguese colony and wherever you go, there are still reminders of the country’s influence. That is certainly the case here, with a delicious menu of Portuguese inspired Macanese dishes. It is one of the oldest restaurants in San Ma Lo and has a relaxed and down-to-earth atmosphere.

The St. Regis Macao

If you love your seafood, then The Manor, the signature restaurant of  St Regis Macao, is the place for you. It is an oyster bar and grill which utilizes a special method of grilling called Robata, developed in Northern Japan. The Seafood Rice Casserole with Lobster is very much a Portuguese dish with the Asian twist in preparation making it one of the most popular on the menu.

Terrazza in Galaxy Macao

Wherever you go in the world, you are sure to find somewhere serving Italian food, and Macao is no different. The elegant Terrazza is listed in the prestigious Michelin Guide, making it a popular place to eat. There is a full range of Italian dishes, as you would expect, coupled with stunning views of Cotai.

Lai Heen

Another location with a Michelin star is Lai Heen, arguably the best vegetarian restaurant in all of Macao. The chefs experiment with Haute Chinese cooking and create dishes that reflect the spirit of Macao. In a city that has lots of places trying to emulate other parts of the world, Lai Heen feels traditional and authentic to the area.

Le Buffet

If, whilst exploring a city much like Las Vegas-based in Asia, you feel like eating European for a real fusion of culture, then you must try Le Buffet at Parisian Macao. There is a range of different cuisines to try, and whatever you choose you can watch the chef adding ingredients and cooking the dish before it is served to you. The seafood, from the buffet table of course, is amongst the best in Macao.
