Representative Greene Removed from Congressional Duties

Last Thursday the House of Representatives voted to strip GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene off the education and budget committees. This came as a result of social media posts on which she had supported various conspiracy theories, many coming from QAnon, and had supported the execution of top Democrats such as Nancy Pelosi.

Before the hearing, Greene defended herself, stating that “these words were words of the past. These things do not represent me.” She claimed to have stopped believing in QAnon around 2018, even though she has openly spoken and supported conspiracy theories from the group in more recent dates, such as the conspiracy theory in 2019 of Supreme Court Justice RBG being played by a body double.

A day after the decision, Greene commented saying she had been stripped of her freedoms, “free speech really matters, and yesterday, when the Democrats and 11 of my Republican colleagues, decided to strip me of my committee assignments — Education and Labor and the Budget Committee — you know what they did? They actually stripped my district of their voice.”

Representative Greene is under fire for several actions and statements. An investigation into her Facebook page shows previous support for the execution of prominent Democratic leaders including previously mentioned Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and FBI agents. Her distaste for Speaker Pelosi came after she voted against Donald Trump’s border wall funding, as Greene posted about impeaching and executing her for treason. Greene has also been seen in Facebook posts holding a gun next to “The Squad”, encouraging “an offense against these socialists”.

Greene has also been reported for supporting outlandish conspiracy theories. Greene has previously engaged in the theory of “Frazzledrip”, that peddled the story that Hillary Clinton was seen sexually assaulting a child and ripping their face off to wear as a mask. She also previously supported a claim that 9/11 never happened, and was staged to further social elites. Greene has gone back on these claims in subsequent hearings.

Some Democrats in Congress were planning to introduce a resolution to expel Greene off Congress altogether, but with the slight majority that Democrats have in the House that is unlikely to pass.

House minority leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy issued a statement denouncing Greene’s past comments, stating that they “do not represent the values or beliefs of the House Republican Conference.” And then argued that it was not enough of reason to strip her of her position in Congress.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas said on ABC News, “they elected her, and she’s going to run for re-election, and she’ll be accountable for what she said and her actions.”

Greene tweeted on Friday, “I woke up early this morning literally laughing thinking about what a bunch of morons the Democrats (+11) are for giving some one like me free time.” She has also stated she had been “freed” and going forward she will “be holding the Republican Party accountable and pushing them to the right.
