In the last years there has been increasing temperatures within the oil exporting country, Kuwait. This Middle Eastern country’s climate has been pushing the environmental limits with rising temperatures creating unhealthy living conditions for the 4 million people.

In 2016 temperatures have reached 129F and in 2021 it continues to linger above 120F. The Environmental Public Authority states if Kuwait remains on it current trajectory, between the years of 2071 and 2100 there will be a 40 degree increase.

Shelters are offering protection from the sweltering heat, if there is space since finding shade is difficult. Kuwait wild life is steady declining as well. Cats, birds, and foxes are unable to benefit from the greenery since there is lack of water coming in.

“This is why we are seeing less and less wildlife in Kuwait, it’s because most of them aren’t making it through the seasons.” Says Tamara Qabazard wildlife Veterinarian at the Kuwait zoo.

There has not been much change from Kuwait to help reduce global warming. Surrounding Middle Eastern countries United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia established the goal of having net-zero emissions within the year of 2050 and 2060 since they produce fossil fuel. They disclosed they will be working towards expanding their economy and investing in healthier and cleaner energy for the environment.

The United Nation climate conferences will be held in Egypt and the UAE to discuss rising temperatures and sea levels.

In November Kuwait decided to pledge at the COP26 summit to cut back on greenhouse emissions by 7.4% in 2035. The intentions falls behind the 43% Paris Agreement’s stretch goal of reducing global warming to 1.5 C by 2030.
