Recapping July 13-19 of The Festival d’été de Québec
The Festival d’été de Québec rolled on this past week, concluding its 58th annual year rocking the streets of Quebec City. Throughout the festival, tens of thousands of visitors were treated to performances from international icons each night. As a result, the affordable, one-of-a-kind event continues to stand as the city’s crown jewel.
The province itself is home to a plethora of talent ranging from hard metal rock to soulful folk tunes. By bringing homegrown talents and well known superstars to the fray, fans are sure to be treated with a unique experience every night. In addition, the wide variety of stars and non stop excitement ensure for a great time for the whole family!
Recap of July 13-19
It’s safe to say the stars were out for the week long stretch that concluded Quebec City’s most famous festival. To begin with, Wednesday July 13th’s lineup started the week with a bang. The performance was headlined by international superstar Kesha. Performing hits like ‘TiK ToK’, ‘Die Young’, ‘Timber’ and ‘Your Love Is My Drug’, fans were treated to the pop star’s classic upbeat, energetic performance. Alt rock band All-American Rejects rounded out the star studded night. The groups’ chokehold on pop-rock music in the 2000’s has carried on for multiple decades.
Thursday night didn’t dim the flame one bit. First it was American country star Nate Smith‘s turn to rock the stage. Afterwords, rising Canadian pop star Jessie Reyez brought the crowd to its feet. The festival’s continued ability to highlight artists close to home is yet another admirable trait. To conclude the night’s festivities, pop superstar Gwen Stefani brought the energy with an electrifying performance.
A guitar heavy, pop-rock inspired Friday night kicked off the weekend in style. The crowd at FEQ’s largest stage, Plains of Abraham, were treated to multiple groups across multiple different genres. Initially, it was UK rockers MUSE, blending alternative and progressive rock with classical influences, who kicked off the night. Then, aussie indie poppers Royel Otis and Canada’s own indie band Mother Mother rounded out the eclectic evening.
But FEQ was sure to leave the best for last. Country-Rock superstar Jelly Roll‘s raw, soulful tunes filled with emotional storytelling served as the perfect ending. The multi-time Grammy Award winner thanked fans profusely for attending. Finally, on Sunday July 19th, the 11 day journey came to an end.
