Recapping July 9-12 of The Festival d’été de Québec
For the last 58 years, The Festival d’été de Québec has took over Quebec City for 11 days each July. Maybe not as well known as Coachella, Lollapalooza or Outside Lands, Quebec’s prized festival welcomes international icons and up and coming artists. By bringing together a diverse range of talent, the festival offers enjoyment for people from all walks of life. It’s affordable, neighborhood friendly, and fun for the whole family! The festive atmosphere is tucked away in the heart of one of the most historic cities in North America.
There are 5 stages set across the grounds of the city. Every year, the festival’s engagement grows as this year boasts over 150 shows of all genres. Because the shows are close together and revolve around the city’s modern beauty, the event feels cohesive and easy for visitors to enjoy. It’s immersive, unique and, quite frankly, hard to take your eye off of. A refreshing, urban, open air celebration is not one to miss.
Recap of Performances from July 9-12
FEQ kicked off on Thursday, July 12th with quite the bang. Focusing on hard rock, heavy metal and ‘nu metal’, visitors were treated with a powerful mix of loud riffs and unstoppable excitement. A rambunctious set from California legends Cypress Hill set the tone for the night. It was followed by rap rock group Limp Bizkit who kept things high energy.
The Weekend festivities were highlighted by American icons The Lumineers, who brought their catchy melodies and calm sing alongs to the table. It was a complete 180 from the rowdy rock performance a day ago. But of course, that’s the beauty of FEQ!
July 11th saw traditional latin flair take center stage. Headlined by “Despacito” hitmaker Luis Fonsi and Montréal artists Cruzito and FRIKITON, fans were treated to a rhythmic, energetic and dance filled evening. The next night, Sunday July 12th, saw British Columbia’s own Michael Buble steal the show. The multi-time grammy award winning artist used to intimate, heartfelt lyrics to serenade the crowd of 80,000+. A summer sighting for the face of winter is rare, but boy is it special when it happens!
In just four nights, FEQ showed just how diverse and versatile their setlists can be. Performances from Gwen Stefani, Kesha, Jelly Roll, Muse, and many others are to follow!
