The Best TikTok Food Hacks

By Samantha Krevolin

TikTok has become one of the most popular apps over quarantine. Its popularity has increased since this past March through trending dances, funny sounds, and even food recipes. TikTok food hacks have become a great way to keep busy while staying home. Many of these recipes are changes to the norm in that they are creative ways to alter foods people already know and love. There have been so many different trends, but here are some that have been the most popular, easiest to make, and very delicious.

Cake in a Mug – Oreo Edition

This extremely popular and easy recipe allows you to make an individual-sized cake within minutes. With the limited ingredients of 3-5 Oreos, milk, baking powder, and a microwave-safe mug, you’re good to go! All you have to do is crush up the amount of Oreos of your choosing in a separate bowl. Then you should pour 3 tablespoons of milk into the microwave-safe mug along with the crushed Oreo cookies and ¼ teaspoon of baking powder. Mix all the ingredients up and then microwave for at least a minute or until it resembles a cake, and then eat up!

Dalgona Coffee or Whipped Coffee

Coffee is a necessity this quarantine whether it be for long days of staying in or to give people the energy to get their day going. With this TikTok recipe, users can change up their daily routines and make professional style coffee from their homes. To start, pour equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water into a bowl. Use a hand mixer to mix all the ingredients together until the mixture looks like a light caramel brown shade with a whipped-cream like consistency. In a cup, pour in milk and ice before the coffee mixture, which will sit on top. Mix it all together or leave it separated, however you like it best, and your reversed latte is ready to drink.

Pancake Cereal

Without a doubt, whatever age you are, you probably recognize this trend from social media or even local news. Pancake cereal has gone viral for its creative and easy way to combine two favorite types of breakfasts. Similar to the other TikTok hacks, this recipe is very easy to make. To start, make pancake batter as one would usually do. Upon completion of that step, pour the batter into a squeeze bottle or piping bag before cooking. Squeeze out small circular dots of pancake batter across the pan and cook for about 30 seconds since the batter is in very small amounts. Flip them over as you would for regular-sized pancakes and let the other side cook. Once you have finished cooking the batter, pour the mini pancakes into a bowl, so they look like cereal! Feel free to add milk and/or any toppings of your choosing.

These are just three examples of many of TikTok’s viral food hacks. There are other popular recipes, recommended brands, food shopping hauls, and cooking technique videos to watch as well. Although there are talks about the app being banned in the United States soon, the recipes TikTok users have given the public this quarantine will stick around for years in the future.
